Introduction

In groups of three, you'll use the Reflection and Analysis Protocol to reflect on and debrief what makes a collaboration effective. As part of this exercise, you are going to use communication skills such as active listening and clarifying and probing questions to discuss your coaching work. The protocol should guide your discussion and help you focus on analyzing your work.

  • Recall these protocol tips from Day 4:
    • Follow the protocol steps as written.
    • Facilitators should intervene to help participants follow the steps.
    • Remember to debrief the protocol.
  • Locate the Reflection and Analysis Protocol, Lesson Improvement Process Rubric, and Learning Activity Checklist handouts in your Participant Handbook.
  • You will also need to think about an improved lesson that resulted from a collaborative experience with a teacher.
  • Complete the first step of the protocol as directed by your facilitator.
  • Break up into groups of three and follow the protocol to reflect on your work.

Debrief

Return to the large group for the debrief.

  • How did using the protocol help or hinder the discussion?
  • In what ways can you see this protocol being used to evaluate learning activities in your school?
  • Could students use this protocol?

Using the protocol with others:

  • What additional information do you need to use the protocol with groups in your school?
