Back | Page 1 of 1 | Next: Lesson Improvement Process

Introduction

You are going to work with a partner during the next two sessions to improve an existing lesson. The goal of this activity is to prepare you to work on collaborative lesson improvement in your schools by applying skills for coaching and knowledge of effective lesson design.

Part A: Learn about the Lesson Improvement Process and Rubric

There are six major steps to the lesson improvement process:

  1. Student Task
  2. Standards
  3. Student/Teacher Directions
  4. Uses of Technology
  5. Design Assessments
  6. Identify Resources

Getting Started

  1. Choose a partner to collaborate with throughout the lesson improvement process. With your partner, review the Sample Lesson and Lesson Improvement Process Rubric in your Participant Handbook.
  2. Throughout the lesson improvement process, use the rubric to guide your work and help you gauge your progress.

Part B: Learn about the Lesson Improvement Project Builder

You will present your improved lesson using the Portfolio tool. We have created a Portfolio Project template for you that addresses the six major steps to the lesson improvement process. The template is only a guide; you are free to make changes or create a new portfolio from scratch if you like.

  1. Install this Portfolio Project.
  2. Accept the Lesson Improvement Process Portfolio.
  3. Following the project guidelines, create a portfolio for your lesson.
  4. Feel free to move pages and sections around. Be creative and add your own sections.
