Bookmarking Powerful Resources

What is social bookmarking and how could you use it?

Introduction

As a T2T leader, you will collect, find, and identify many online resources through the DLC to use in your teaching or as you coach other teachers to integrate technology.

You can use the DLC Bookmarks tool to save and share the sites you find with others. This web-based tool will help you assemble a collection of useful links and web resources.

  • Throughout the school year, you can refer to your bookmarks as you create lessons or help other teachers integrate technology into their classrooms.
  • If you already maintain your own web page, you can easily add a link from it to your bookmark page.

With the DLC Bookmarks tool you can:

  • Save links to articles, resources, and websites. You can bookmark anything on the Web, including articles and resources you find through the DLC!
  • Share your bookmarks with others. Save a bunch of links, then share them with other students or teachers.
  • Find useful bookmarks that others have saved. Browse through the Popular Bookmarks or Top Categories to find bookmarks.

Getting Started

Creating Bookmarks

Create a bookmark using the Bookmarking Powerful Resources handout.

Use Your Bookmarks Account with Staff and Students

Each bookmark has a URL (web address) that you can use to locate the page. Here are some ways to share resources through Bookmarks:

  • Send the URL (web address) to selected teachers in an email.
  • Create a category that will appeal to your teachers when they log into the Bookmarks tool.
  • Add someone else's bookmarks to yours, if you see something you like.

Guidelines and Suggestions for Using the DLC Bookmarks Tool

  • See if a category that fits already exists.
  • Write a detailed description to explain why you're bookmarking the page.
  • Save resources that you can only view when logged into the DLC.
  • Remember that this is a social bookmarking page, not a private bookmarking page! Don't bookmark things that your students might find obscene or offensive.
